The Isle of Wight Steam Railway offers a range of locations, historic rolling stock, and other opportunities for TV and Film.

Our railway has provided the setting for numerous TV and Film productions over the years.   Our delightful Victorian and Edwardian carriages, (dating back to 1864) have been beautifully restored to pristine condition, and all have genuine original fittings. When used in conjunction with one of our Victorian locomotives, the oldest of which was built in 1876, the perfect period atmosphere of a byegone age in a rural location can be recreated.

The railway has featured in a variety of productions including:

IRON HORSE  Music short film (promo) - Pop Band 'Christie'
BLUE PETER Isle of Wight Special - BBC Children's programme
HEY LOOK THAT'S ME - BBC Children's programme
WODEHOUSE PLAYHOUSE 'The Smile That Wins' - BBC period comedy
GRANGE HILL - BBC children's contemporary drama
LAST TRAIN HOME - A video promo for possible new TV series, produced by Clear Irony
UNRAVELLING THE UNIVERSE  - 'Equinox' documentary for Channel 4
HIGHWAY - TVS religious programme for ITV
LADY CHATTERLEY - Period film by Lion Films for BBC
RETURN OF THE PSAMMEAD - BBC children's period drama
TIME OFF - BBC2 Hobby programme
2001   THE HOURS (not at Steam Rly)

In addition, there have been regular segments in regional news programmes and visits from a number of UK and foriegn 'travel' shows, including one from Japan! A feature - Jim's Story - was also produced for a local news programme. It was about our Commercial Manager's involvement with the Railway.

Producers may also like to know that such is the reputation of our rolling stock, that some years ago, three of our carriages were conveyed by road to Loughborough to provide the setting for Paramount Pictures' production "The Hours", starring Meryl Streep".
