46447 - rapid progress towards completion!

The overhaul of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s Ivatt 2MT tender locomotive No.46447 is now well on the way to completion at Cranmore on the East Somerset Railway, this picture shows the state of play on Sunday 14th September 2014.  46447 moved to Somerset for restoration in 2012 as part of the deal which saw the last remaining LBSCR E1 class locomotive W2 ‘Yarmouth’ pass into the ownership of the IWSR.  Once back in service, 46447 will remain on loan to the East Somerset Railway for ten years.

46447’s boiler was steam tested and returned to the frames earlier this summer and is now in the final stages of fitting out and commissioning. A return to service for the first time since December 1966 can’t be far away now, so watch this space for more news.  You can also keep a check on 46447’s progress by visiting the East Somerset Railway’s website.
