Apprentice Position arises in Carriage & Wagon

CARRIAGE & WAGON DEPT APPRENTICE

A vacancy has arisen in the Carriage and Wagon Department for an Apprentice.  This position is primarily based at Havenstreet on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.

Job Description
The Carriage & Wagon Department undertakes the conservation, restoration and ongoing maintenance of a wide range of historic rolling stock. The skills required to do this are wide and varied and include metalwork fabrication, machining, carpentry, joinery, painting and even upholstery work.

In order to ensure the long term future of the railway, we are looking to take on and enthusiastic and dedicated individual who can demonstrate an aptitude for this work
and a willingness to learn.

The successful candidate will work alongside our existing workforce, made up of both volunteer and paid staff to learn and develop skills in all aspects of the department’s work, they will also have to undertake educational training to achieve an appropriate qualification, usually on a day release basis.
