Track Pack - July 2011

Print PDF

Hello there folks, welcome to The News of the World edition of Trackpack, so in this edition most of your mobile phone secrets will be revealed to the world.. Before we get closed down and an official enquiry held into the activities at the PW office here at Havenstreet I just have time to tell you about the next working weekend and what has been going on....hold the front page, I think I've picked up a mobile phone text from Phil, yes he's going to play golf tonight!

August Working Weekend - Sat 6th / Sun 7th

Right what is on offer for the next working weekend? Well I have to be honest and say I'm not sure. We have several small jobs to finish off from previous weekends and some of these may well still be outstanding. This includes two lots of fencing, a fair bit of painting at Havenstreet, a dose of catch pit cleaning, a rather large oak tree fallen on a bank at Woodhouse, dummy signals for both Wootton and Smallbrook and other more mundane jobs such as cutting back and gate painting. We will pick a few to do between now and August but whatever is left over and I am sure there will be some we can incorporate into the working weekend. I am sure we will be struggling for manpower as the show looms ever closer so any help will be gratefully accepted.

So lots to do and we hope to see a few of you over the weekend, usual terms and conditions apply.

What's been going on?

News Of The World Scoop – Phil Boxall ate my Ham Sandwich

We again mustered during the 40's weekend, with military uniforms and fashions all around us. We being dressed in up to date orange gear we decided to work out of the way in Griffins sidings field doing a huge tidy up of the storage areas, clearing undergrowth, strimming and mowing to keep it all looking much smarter and enabling us to find a few things that had been overtaken by the vegetation. One lonely figure dressed in 40's attire worked away cleaning and painting signal equipment outside the signalbox on Saturday and Sunday.

Another lonely figure worked away on weedkilling duties around the site at Havenstreet on Saturday and part of Sunday before disappearing on his holidays for a few days.

Well done all, a fine job both in and out of the public areas. Many thanks.

What else has been going on?

Lots of smaller jobs again this month, all rather mundane but it seems that is our lot at this time of year. Wednesday working evening continue with a small team working on various jobs on the track with lifting and packing being done and some slueing.

More and more time is spent on waste disposal for events and as they are happening thick and fast at the moment we are sick of the sight of Biffa bins and there contents.

The marquee had another move in the show field in preparation for the 40's weekend and folk station events and will no doubt require another move shortly to form accommodation for the next round of events.

The grass cutting and bank clearance team are still working away on the lineside with large tracts of land looking very smart.

Finally a large oak tree fell from adjacent land near Woodhouse crossing recently and caused a slight blockage of the line, quickly dealt with but the remainder will need to be cut and cleared shortly to reveal what damage has been done to the fence at this point. Temporary repairs were carried out further towards Woodhouse to the fence to allow the farmer to continue use of the field for cattle.

That's it for now then folks, hope to see you soon.

Dave, Pete, Phil and Ian.
