Full Steam Ahead for 40th Steam Show

Preparations for the 40th anniversary Island Steam Show are well underway at Havenstreet.   The IWSR's volunteer 'Steam Team' are going through their well practiced setting up procedure, determined to make this year's show the best ever!

The main arena has been constructed and a number of steam traction engines have already arrived at the Havenstreet Station Show Ground.  James Horton's steam powered Gallopers arrived from Sussex yesterday evening and were in position and ready to go by lunchtime today.  In the Real Ale tent, 52 of the 54 casks of ale have been delivered and are now up on the stillages, ready for the grand opening of the show on Friday morning.

The traction engine line up, with the engines waiting for the show to open on Friday morning.
Around the Show, climb aboard the traditional fairground rides, marvel at the fascinating working steam demonstrations, relish the sight of beautifully maintained traction engines, vintage cars, motorcycles and old wagons, or simply settle back for a steam train ride through the Island's unspoilt countryside. To complete your day out, meet the Blackfoot Lodge in their Red Indian encampment, browse around the fascinating stalls, pick up a bargain from the country crafts, cool down with an ice cream or a glass of your favourite tipple from our Real Ale bar, and enjoy a good variety of refreshments.

The first Isle of Wight Steam Railway Summer Steam Show was held on 23rd and 24th August 1975 and was staged to mark the 100th anniversary year since the opening of the Ryde to Newport Railway in 1875. (Our line from Smallbrook-Ashey-Havenstreet-Wootton was formerly part of the Ryde to Newport railway).  A number of our 'Steam Team' volunteers have worked at all 40 Steam Shows!
