O2 Class W24 ‘Calbourne’
Calbourne, deservedly, has been the centre of attention since the welcome return to service earlier this year, celebrated by the “Calbourne Weekend”. The locomotive has performed well and has recently undergone routine maintenance and winterisation. W24 will be back in steam on 23rd January 2011 for 'The Last Train' event, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Wight Locomotive Society's move to Havenstreet. 'Calbourne' is now pencilled in for the 21st to 25th February 2011 Half Term train service.

A1x Class W8 ‘Freshwater’
Now laid up for the winter, following a busy season.

A1x Class W11 ‘Newport’
Work is progressing to bring this locomotive back into service as a priority. The cab is receiving attention to replace corroded steelwork while the cylinders and motion are being stripped down for examination and repair.

Hawthorn Leslie W37 ‘Invincible’
Out of service, pending a 10-year overhaul and boiler survey.
Barclay W38 ‘Ajax’
Available for service.
Hunslet Austerity WD192 'Waggoner'
Currently over the Wheel Drop for attention to bearings to reduce lateral movement in wheel-sets.

Hunslet Austerity WD198 ‘Royal Engineer’
Service locomotive for Christmas/New Year operations. The freezing winter conditions over the Christmas period made routine frost precautions essential to prevent damage to locomotive components; lubricators were drained of water at the end of each duty and sufficient fire left on the grate to prevent rapid cooling of the boiler - the overnight temperature at Havenstreet dropped as low as -5c. Despite precautions, crews still had to contend with frozen site water supplies and injector water feeds. The 'fire devil' had to be lit under the water tower on a number of occasions to ensure that the locomotive supply was maintained. The icy weather brought slippery rail head conditions, giving our footplate crews some challenging times!

Hunslet Austerity 3850 ‘Juno’
Juno, as the last untouched and original example of a class of 484, has been placed on loan with the National Railway Museum. It is now on display in the Collection Building and will be conserved in the museum’s Conservation Workshop in due course.
