M&A Quarterly Newsletter - Dec 2013

The Museum & Archives Department is a small team whose remit is to manage the Railway’s Museum Gallery and act as custodians for the Railway’s historic museum artefacts and archives collections.

The Railway has a collection of over 1,500 artefacts and an archive collection consisting of many thousands of items including, plans, tickets, timetables, various railway paperwork. The Railway also has a large photographic and audio visual collection. The Museum & Archives Department collect items relating to the operation and history of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway and this ever growing collection of modern records charts the development of railway preservation on the Island.  In very simple terms the Museum & Archives Department exists to, ‘To collect, preserve, document, publish and interpret material relating to the railways on the Isle of Wight and connecting services from the mainland, and make it as widely available as possible for inspiration, education and enjoyment.’

The Museum & Archives Department produces a quarterly newsletter called Museum & Archives Review. The latest edition is available here: /files/documents/manda-review-no5-dec-2013pdf.pdf
