Steam Fleet ready for annual tests.

Sunday 9th March 2014

'Calbourne' and 'Ajax' on the left, 'Newport', 'Waggoner' and 'Freshwater' (out of sight) on the right.  'Royal Engineer' is still inside the workshop having final adjustments made to the regulator valve.
During a busy Sunday at Havenstreet, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway's operational fleet of steam locomotives were prepared for their annual steam test, due to take place when the boiler inspector visits the railway later in the week.  W8 'Freshwater', W11 'Newport', W24 'Calbourne', W38 'Ajax', WD192 'Waggoner' and WD 198 'Royal Engineer' will all be test steamed ready to be passed fit for service during the 2014 operating season, which gets underway on Sunday 16th March.

W11 is expected to be in steam for trials on Monday 10th March for the first since being fitted with a brand new boiler. 'Newport's return to steam has been delayed since last autumn due to a defective main steam pipe, a replacement has now been made and fitted.  The boiler inspector's visit will be the first time since 2002 that our two 'Terriers' have been in steam together at Havenstreet.
