The Isle of Wight Steam Railway's 2005 programme of Santa Special services drew to a close on Christmas Eve. This years Santa engine was Hunslet 'Austerity' WD198 'Royal Engineer' which provided the motive power for all of the Santa services, hauling packed trains made up of the railways unique LB&SCR, SE&CR and LC&DR carriages. The Isle of Wight Steam Railway's Mid Winter timetable continues with Mince Pie Specials which will operate on 26th and 27th December 2005 and Hangover Specials on 1st January 2006. Following a short winter break to allow essential engineering works and maintenance to take place the 2006 operating season will start on 19th March 2006 when a Racegoers Special Service will operate, providing transport to the Ashey Scurry horse racing event taking place adjacent to Ashey Station, this will be followed by the resumption of normal services on 23rd March 2005.
