How to find us

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is based at Havenstreet, near Ryde, on the Isle of Wight. From the mainland the most convenient routes to the railway are by Wightlink ferry from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde or Hovercraft from Southsea to Ryde, and then by 'Island Line' electric train to Smallbrook Junction station. Car ferry services also operate from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, Southampton to Cowes and between Lymington and Yarmouth. Havenstreet and Wootton stations are both well served by buses from all parts of the Island.

Portsmouth - Ryde Pier Head "Fast Cat" Catamaran, Portsmouth - Fishbourne car ferry and Lymington - Yarmouth car ferry services are operated by Wightlink Ltd., Isle of Wight Ferries, P.O. Box 59, Portsmouth, PO1 2XB.

We are Only 30 minutes from Portsmouth Harbour!

For Mainland visitors, travelling to us from Portsmouth Harbour could not be easier! The short crossing by WIGHTlink high speed catamaran to Ryde Pier Head and the Island Line electric train journey to Smallbrook Junction, the cross-platform interchange station with the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, only takes about 30 minutes!

Foot passengers may purchase a through ticket from the Wightlink Booking Office at Portsmouth Harbour station. This all day ticket includes the return Catamaran journey, plus unlimited travel for the day on Island Line's Ryde-Shanklin trains and on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.

Through tickets are available from most staffed railway stations in London and the South East. Just ask for the "Isle of Wight Steam Day Rover" ticket at your local station, and leave the car at home. The ticket covers the return rail journey to Portsmouth Harbour, the catamaran to Ryde and a day's unlimited travel on Island Line & the Steam Railway.

Southsea - Ryde Esplanade Hovercraft service is operated by Hovertravel Ltd Quay Road, Ryde, Isle of Wight, PO33 2HB. Combined Hovercraft and Steam Railway tickets available.

Southampton - West Cowes High-Speed and Southampton-East Cowes Car ferry services are operated by Red Funnel.

Once on the Island ...

By Car - From all parts of the Island, head towards Ryde and then follow the signs to Havenstreet and the Steam Railway. Havenstreet Station has a large free car park. The only other station with parking facilities is Wootton.. There is no road access to Ashey Station and no road or pedestrian access to Smallbrook Junction Station.

By Train - Island Line electric trains serve Ryde, Brading, Sandown, Lake and Shanklin. These stop at Smallbrook Junction station on Isle of Wight Steam Railway operating days only.

Double your holiday fun with an Island Liner ticket. Enjoy a day's unlimited travel on Island Line electric trains as well as on the Steam Railway. Island Liner tickets are available from any manned Island Station or on the train. There is a convenient interchange between the two railways at Smallbrook Junction. Adult - £12.00 Child (5 - 15 yrs) - £6.00.

By Bus - Southern Vectis service 33 calls at Havenstreet Station. Service 9 serves Wootton Station.
