24th – 27th August 2012

Big Smiles All Round! ... An action-packed show and great family day out!

Gasp, cheer, laugh and enjoy the stunning shows in the main arena!

Be astonished with Mr Alexander's Travelling Show featuring astounding acts of juggling, balancing, uni-cycling and all kinds of feats of skill. See some silly things to do with traction engines, marvel at the fascinating working steam demonstrations, or go for something completely different and sample our ‘Sanctuary’ for a little pampering and indulgence.

Climb aboard the traditional fairground rides, meet the Blackfoot Lodge in their Red Indian encampment, or simply settle back for a steam train ride through the Island's unspoilt countryside. Around the Show you can marvel at the beautifully maintained traction engines, vintage cars, motorcycles and old wagons, browse around the fascinating stalls, pick up a bargain from among the country crafts ... and there's a chance for the kids to learn circus skills with Circus Wizz while Mum's and Dad's can escape from it all with a little pampering in The Sanctuary!

Plus enjoy a good variety of refreshments. There's a varied menu of meals and snacks in the Railway's Refreshmrent Rooms, morning coffee or afternnoon teas and cakes from our Tea Tent, a range of outlets offering pizzas, hots dogs, sandwiches & baguettes, jacket potatoes and other choices ... And there's our Real Ale Bar with a range of over 50 real ales. available over the weekend!

Staged in our large events field adjacent to Havenstreet Station, there really is lots to keep you entertained all day - The Island Steam Show will make your August Bank Holiday a weekend to remember!

Island Steam Show Train Services

On all four days of the Island Steam Show an intensive steam hauled two-train service will be operated. Trains will be leaving Havenstreet Station, Smallbrook Junction and Wootton Station at 30 minute intervals throughout the day - the first and last train times are shown below. Most services departing from Smallbrook Junction will be running non-stop to Wootton, with trains passing at Havenstreet Station to recreate scenes from the heyday of the Island's once extensive railway system.

It is hoped that our flagship locomotive, recently restored London and South Western Railway O2 Class No.W24 ‘Calbourne’, resplendent in early British Railways lined black livery, will head a mixed livery train of former London, Brighton & South Coast Railway and South Eastern & Chatham Railway bogie coaches, a typical Island railway scene from half a century ago. Meanwhile, the Steam Railway’s oldest locomotive, 1876-built London, Brighton and South Coast Railway A1x ‘Terrier’ Class No.W8 ‘Freshwater’ is expected to be in charge of a train of Victorian four-wheeled coaches, recreating a typical Southern Railway scene from the inter-war years.

The two-train service will enable Steam Show visitors to ride behind two different trains both of which will comprise only former Island railway rolling stock.

The full Working Timetable is available HERE. First and last train times are as follows:

First Train Last Train
Havenstreet to Smallbrook Junction 10.15am 6.00pm
Havenstreet to Wootton 10.20am 5.35pm
Smallbrook Junction to Havenstreet 10.38am 6.18pm

Note: Trains will not call at Ashey Station during the Island Steam Show.
