Accessibility

Access to Havenstreet Station is suitable for wheelchair users. From the car park to the platform, and around the site, the surface is a flat tarmac surface. There is a ramp up to the platform but, based on experience, this seems to present little difficulty. Toilet facilities for wheelchair users are provided at Havenstreet Station.

Access to Smallbrook Junction (via Island Line train service) and Wootton Station is possible, both stations have steep ramp and footpath sections which are negotiable with care.

Ashey Station is a rural halt with only rough bridleways leading to and from the platform, which has no facilities. Therefore, it does not offer suitable access for wheelchair users, although the platform and picnic areas are level and negotiable with care.

Our carriages are of Victorian or Edwardian origin, compartment doors are too narrow for wheelchairs to enter. If the customer is able to leave the wheelchair, he or she may take the wheelchair up to the carriage door and then use the comfortable seating within the compartment. The empty wheelchair can be left with the platform staff or put into the guard's van. If the customer is unable to leave the wheelchair they may travel in a carriage which has been specially modified to provide a compartment with double doors able to accommodate wheelchairs. Although this vehicle is included in the train whenever possible, we must point out that for operational and maintenance reasons, the presence of this vehicle within the train cannot be guaranteed. At such times we will endeavour to accommodate the wheelchair within the guard's van.

Wheelchair access to our shop is possible, although circulation space is tight due to the presence of four pillars, and our cafeteria and carriage & wagon workshop are both wheelchair accessible. Our museum (accessed via steps from within the shop) is currently not accessible for wheelchairs.

Customers in wheelchairs are very welcome on our railway, and our staff will always provide all possible assistance whenever required.
Customers with particular requirements are advised to contact the railway on 01983 882204 prior to their visit.
